Award-winning performer Cynthia Erivo has been named as host of the 78th Annual Tony Awards, set to take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 8, 2025.

The Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner will lead Broadway's biggest night, which celebrates excellence in American theater. The ceremony will broadcast live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ in the United States.

"I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor," Erivo said in a statement. "I am looking forward to ushering the theater community at large through a night that celebrates the wonderful performances we have witnessed throughout the year."

Erivo brings substantial Broadway credentials to the role, having won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance as Celie in the 2015 revival of "The Color Purple."

The announcement comes during a busy period for Erivo, who recently starred as Elphaba in Universal's film adaptation of "Wicked" opposite Ariana Grande. She is also set to play Jesus in an upcoming production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at The Hollywood Bowl.

Theater executives Heather Hitchens and Jason Laks praised Erivo's selection, noting her ability to bring "the magic of musical theater to millions of new fans around the globe."

The nominations for the 2025 Tony Awards will be announced on May 1, 2025. The ceremony will be produced through a collaboration between Tony Award Productions, the American Theatre Wing, The Broadway League, and White Cherry Entertainment, with Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss serving as executive producers.
