The highly anticipated reboot of the beloved Nickelodeon series "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" has encountered another setback at Nickelodeon and Paramount.
The original series, which ran from 2004 to 2007, followed the adventures of Ned, Cookie, and Moze at James K. Polk Middle School, offering both humorous and practical advice for navigating school life. The show garnered a dedicated following during its three-season run.
Original star Devon Werkheiser and series creator Scott Fellows had been developing an adult-focused reboot that would have followed the main characters in their post-college lives. The planned pilot would have shown Cookie as a successful but unhappy tech worker, Moze dealing with the aftermath of a broken engagement, and Ned crashing on Cookie's couch after his latest venture failed.
In 2023, the original cast members - Werkheiser, Daniel Curtis Lee, and Lindsey Shaw - launched "Ned's Declassified Podcast Survival Guide," a rewatch podcast that quickly gained popularity. The podcast's success caught the attention of Nickelodeon and Paramount executives, who showed renewed interest in reviving the series.
However, the reboot's momentum was halted when Paramount announced its merger plans with Skydance Media in mid-2023. The subsequent corporate restructuring led to widespread layoffs, including most team members working on the "Ned's Declassified" revival project.
This latest development marks the second time the reboot has failed to materialize, following an earlier pass by Nickelodeon on the initial pitch. The future of the project remains uncertain as the media landscape continues to evolve.
