Acclaimed actress and producer Viola Davis will be honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, recognizing her outstanding contributions to entertainment.
The EGOT winner's remarkable career spans theater, television, and film. Davis earned an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her powerful performance in "Fences" (2016), an Emmy for "How to Get Away with Murder" (2015), Tony Awards for "King Hedley II" (2001) and "Fences" (2010), and a Grammy for narrating her memoir "Finding Me" (2023).
"Viola Davis is a luminary whose profound talent has continuously shifted the lens through which we see and understand film," said Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne. She praised Davis's courage in portraying complex characters and breaking barriers in the industry.
Throughout her illustrious career, Davis has delivered memorable performances in films like "Doubt," "The Help," "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," "The Woman King," and "Air." Her compelling portrayals have earned her multiple Oscar nominations and critical acclaim.
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 5, 2025, broadcasting live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the event, with nominations set to be announced on December 9.
Davis joins an esteemed list of previous Cecil B. DeMille Award recipients, including Oprah Winfrey, Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington. Upon learning of this recognition, Davis expressed her gratitude on social media, stating she was "Thrilled! Overwhelmed! Honored!"
The Golden Globes will also host a special gala dinner on January 3, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to celebrate Davis and the upcoming Carol Burnett Award recipient, marking the first dedicated evening for these historic awards.
