Actor Manny Jacinto has sparked new hope among Star Wars fans by hinting at expanded storylines involving Darth Plagueis in potential future seasons of "The Acolyte," despite the show's recent cancellation.
During a panel at FanExpo San Francisco, Jacinto carefully addressed questions about his character Qimir's connection to Darth Plagueis, the legendary Sith Lord and mentor to Emperor Palpatine who made his live-action debut in the series finale.
"There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show," Jacinto revealed, while maintaining some mystery around future possibilities. "We definitely wanted to explore it."
The actor remained deliberately vague about Qimir's true identity and relationship to Plagueis, playfully dodging direct answers. "Is Qimir's name actually Qimir?" he teased, suggesting deeper layers to his character's story.
"The Acolyte" was unexpectedly cancelled in August 2024 following its first season, reportedly due to viewership numbers falling below expectations. The series featured a stellar cast including Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The brief appearance of Darth Plagueis in the finale - portrayed as a shadowy figure with distinctive long fingers and a flat nose - left fans eager for more exploration of this pivotal character from Star Wars mythology.
While the show's future remains uncertain, Jacinto's careful hints about unrealized storylines have added fuel to ongoing fan efforts to revive the series, which currently streams on Disney+.
