Hollywood veteran Kevin Bacon and country music star Jennifer Nettles have discovered unexpected musical chemistry while working on their new Prime Video series "The Bondsman."
The pair, who play former spouses in the horror-comedy series, collaborated on several original songs for the show. Bacon, who has been writing music since age 12 and performs with The Bacon Brothers, found an immediate songwriting connection with Sugarland's Nettles.
"We just had a very good musical songwriting connection right away," Bacon told PEOPLE magazine. Their creative process involved studio sessions in New York and exchanging voice notes to develop songs that reflect their characters' past as a musical duo.
The musical partnership between the actors left a strong impression on their co-star Jolene Purdy, who witnessed their impromptu performances during filming breaks. "I was being serenaded by Kevin Bacon and Jennifer Nettles," Purdy recalled of the private concerts that emerged between takes.
In "The Bondsman," Bacon portrays Hub Halloran, a Georgia bail enforcer with a complicated past, while Nettles plays his ex-wife Maryanne. Their characters share a history as former musical partners whose relationship dissolved 15 years before the events of the show.
The series, which premiered on April 3 on Prime Video, blends elements of horror and comedy while showcasing the musical talents of its lead actors. Some of their collaborative songs appear both in the show and on its soundtrack, "The Bondsman: Hell and Back."
Bacon expressed hope for continued musical exploration should the series return for a second season, highlighting the natural chemistry he found with Grammy-winner Nettles. "I feel lucky to get a chance to sing with her," he said. "She's that good that she can make me sound good."
