Former "Saved By the Bell" star Tiffani Thiessen is embracing a fresh perspective on wellness as she enters her 50s. The actress, who recently celebrated her 51st birthday, opened up to PEOPLE about her transformed approach to health and fitness.

"Last year, I turned the big 5-0, which was a turning point in my life," Thiessen shared. The milestone birthday prompted her to reassess her wellness goals, shifting focus from appearance to overall wellbeing.

The actress, who rose to fame as a teenager on hit shows like "Saved By the Bell" and "Beverly Hills, 90210," reflected on how her priorities have changed over the years. "In my twenties, it was all about looking really good," she admitted. "But in my fifties, my first goal was feeling good, and that was physically and mentally."

Rather than following strict regimens, Thiessen now embraces a more balanced approach to fitness. She enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and pickleball with friends, emphasizing the importance of mental health alongside physical wellness. "When you start with the mental, it actually makes it a little easier," she explained.

As part of her evolved wellness journey, Thiessen has partnered with protein powder company Isopure, creating healthy recipes including protein-packed carrot muffins. The cookbook author and mother of two - Harper, 14, and Holt, 9 - appreciates that these recipes help her incorporate more protein into her family's diet while sneaking in vegetables.

"I'm always trying to get protein in their diet as well," she said about her children's nutrition. "They're good eaters, but we can always be better."

Thiessen's new approach demonstrates how wellness goals can mature and evolve with age. "That's what I've learned in my wise age of 51 now," she reflected. "When you go that way first, usually everything else falls into place."
