In a heartbreaking revelation on the premiere episode of TLC's "The Baldwins," actor Alec Baldwin shared his ongoing struggle with the tragic 2021 Rust shooting incident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
During the February 23 episode, Baldwin, 66, expressed his deep emotional turmoil, questioning why he survived the incident. His wife Hilaria revealed that Baldwin was diagnosed with PTSD following the tragedy, noting that in his darkest moments, he asks, "Why couldn't it have been me?"
The actor described experiencing severe depression, admitting to a friend that he feels "happier when I'm asleep than when I'm awake." Hilaria observed a notable decline in her husband's mental health, particularly after he faced involuntary manslaughter charges, which were later dismissed in July. Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a civil lawsuit against prosecutors and investigators following the dismissal of involuntary manslaughter charges in the fatal "Rust" movie set shooting incident.
The October 27, 2021 incident occurred when a prop gun Baldwin was holding discharged on the Rust film set, resulting in Hutchins' death. Baldwin maintains he neither pulled the trigger nor knew the gun contained live ammunition instead of dummy rounds.
The couple credited their seven children for providing strength during this challenging period. "Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have you and these kids going through this," Baldwin shared.
Hilaria acknowledged that while their older children are aware of the situation, the younger ones "don't know life without this." She emphasized that the tragedy's impact will forever be part of their family's story, noting that "Halyna lost her life in the most unthinkable tragedy, a son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry this pain forever."
