The "Stranger Things" star reflects on his meteoric rise to fame at age 13 and shares his one retrospective wish - starting therapy sooner.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Finn Wolfhard, now 22, opened up about his overnight success following the 2016 release of Netflix's hit series "Stranger Things." While the actor generally avoids dwelling on past decisions, he acknowledged one change he would make given the chance.
"I don't think I'd ever go back and do something over, but maybe I would go back to when the show first came out and blew up, and I would directly put myself into therapy," Wolfhard revealed.
The actor, who plays Mike Wheeler in the supernatural drama, admitted the whirlwind nature of his sudden fame left little room for processing the massive life change. "It was so crazy and overnight, that there was not really any time to think about that," he explained.
Looking back at his journey, Wolfhard maintains a balanced perspective on his experiences. "I think childhood, and life in general, is about trial and error," he shared, acknowledging that making and learning from mistakes is part of human nature.
In a previous GQ interview, Wolfhard had discussed how the intense pressure of his early success eventually manifested in routine panic attacks. Despite maintaining a composed exterior that led many to believe he was "having the best time," the young actor was privately grappling with developing anxieties.
Currently, Wolfhard can be seen in "Hell of a Summer" in theaters, with "The Legend of Ochi" set for release on April 25. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things," expected to stream on Netflix in 2025.
