NBC has expanded its commitment to the new comedy series "Happy's Place," starring country music legend Reba McEntire, ordering five additional episodes to bring the first season total to 18 episodes.
The Friday night sitcom has emerged as a standout success since its October 18 debut, drawing impressive viewership numbers. The premiere episode attracted 4 million same-day viewers, eventually growing to 14 million viewers across all platforms. The show has dramatically improved its 8 PM timeslot performance, boosting total viewership by 90% and adults 18-49 ratings by 88%.
In "Happy's Place," McEntire plays Bobbie, who inherits her father's tavern only to discover she must share ownership with Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), a previously unknown half-sister in her twenties. The series reunites McEntire with her former "Reba" co-star Melissa Peterman, who plays bartender Gabby. The cast also includes Rex Linn, Tokala Black Elk, and Pablo Castelblanco.
The show's success appears to be amplified by McEntire's concurrent role as coach on NBC's "The Voice." "Happy's Place" has also achieved a milestone as Peacock's most successful new comedy launch to date.
Recent casting additions include Elizabeth Alderfer joining as Bobbie's daughter Gracie, while former "Reba" star Steve Howey is set for a guest appearance in December.
Created by Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott, the series has received positive critical reception, maintaining a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised the show's nostalgic appeal and heartfelt approach to family dynamics.
"Happy's Place" joins CBS's "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage" and "Poppa's House" as the third new network sitcom to receive a full-season order this fall.
