Former child star Macaulay Culkin recently shared that he contemplated purchasing the iconic "Home Alone" house when it went up for sale earlier this year for $5.25 million.

Speaking at a screening of the beloved 1990 film at Illinois' Rosemont Theater, the 44-year-old actor told audiences, "I had half a mind to buy it — just for giggles." His vision included transforming the famous residence into a "movie fun house" where visitors could recreate memorable scenes, like sledding down the stairs as his character Kevin McCallister did.

The house, located in Winnetka, Illinois, spans an impressive 9,126 square feet and includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a sunroom, and modern amenities like a fully equipped gym and state-of-the-art movie theater. The property sold within a week of hitting the market in June 2023.

When asked why he didn't follow through with the purchase, Culkin, now a father of two, explained simply, "I got kids. I'm busy, man." The actor shares two sons with his fiancée Brenda Song - three-year-old Dakota and a two-year-old whose name remains private.

Culkin is currently touring with "A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin," celebrating the film franchise that launched his career. During the Rosemont show, he reflected on his evolving relationship with "Home Alone," describing it as "kind of a curse and a blessing" during his younger years. Now as a parent, he views the film differently, watching it alongside his children who "have no idea who they're sitting next to."

The property has changed hands only twice since the film's release, maintaining its status as a cultural landmark that continues to draw attention from fans and tourists alike.
