Award-winning actor Matt Bomer recently opened up about his early career experiences with media outlets prematurely exposing his personal life before he had the chance to do so himself.

During an appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's "Dinner's on Me" podcast, Bomer discussed how celebrity gossip sites, including Perez Hilton, took control of his narrative by speculating about his sexuality before he could address it publicly.

"No media outlet was ever going like, 'Hey!'" Bomer explained, noting that while tabloids were eager to print rumors, they never offered him a platform to tell his story on his own terms. "I just didn't have a career that warranted that," he added.

The "White Collar" star officially came out as gay during a 2012 awards speech, where he proudly acknowledged his husband, publicist Simon Halls, and their three children. However, by that time, his personal life had already been extensively discussed in celebrity news outlets.

In a recent revelation, Bomer shared that this unauthorized exposure reportedly cost him the role of Superman in a Brett Ratner-directed film, which eventually went to Henry Cavill.

Despite the challenges, Bomer remained resilient, supported by his loving family. "If the worst that happens is that I don't work again and I have this beautiful family who I love and who loves me, then so be it," he reflected.

The actor has since flourished in his career, starring in groundbreaking projects like "Fellow Travelers," where he portrays complex LGBTQ characters. His journey from being involuntarily outed to becoming an openly gay leading actor highlights the evolving landscape of LGBTQ representation in Hollywood.
