Former "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno is sporting an eye patch after a mishap that sent him rolling down a steep hillside in Pennsylvania. The 74-year-old comedian sustained head injuries when he hit a rock during the fall but managed to keep his sense of humor about the incident.
The accident occurred on Saturday, November 16, when Leno attempted to take a shortcut to reach a restaurant located about a mile and a half from his hotel outside Pittsburgh. Rather than walk the longer route around, he decided to traverse directly down what appeared to be a manageable 60-70 foot hill.
"I fell down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill, hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye," Leno told TMZ, appearing in the interview with visible bruising and an eye patch.
True to his professional nature, Leno went on to perform his scheduled comedy show at the Yaamava' Resort & Casino in Highland, California before seeking medical attention back in Los Angeles.
The veteran comedian quipped about the incident: "The great thing about this age, you don't learn by your mistakes, you just keep doing the same stupid thing."
This latest mishap adds to Leno's recent string of accidents. In January 2023, he broke multiple bones after being thrown from his vintage motorcycle, and in November 2022, he suffered severe burns in a garage fire that required a 10-day hospital stay.
Despite these setbacks, Leno continues to work and will appear in CBS's upcoming revival of "Hollywood Squares," premiering January 9.
