Fantasy author George R.R. Martin has revealed plans to pen a story about the city of Braavos, a location familiar to Game of Thrones fans. However, he insists this project will only commence after completing his long-awaited novel, The Winds of Winter.
In a recent blog post, Martin shared his inspiration for Braavos, citing Amsterdam and other European cities as influences. He then hinted at his desire to revisit a scrapped HBO spin-off concept centered on this intriguing locale.
"One of these days I need to write that story about Braavos we were developing for HBO," Martin stated. "They shelved that one a couple of years back, alas, but that does not mean I won't go back to it... After Winds of Winter is done, of course."
This revelation marks the first public acknowledgment of HBO's abandoned Braavos series. The project joins a growing list of unsuccessful Game of Thrones spin-offs, including a prequel based on The Long Night and a potential Jon Snow sequel.
