FX's hit comedy series "English Teacher" appears headed for a second season, according to multiple industry sources. The freshman comedy, which concluded its eight-episode first season in October, is expected to resume production later this month.
Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, "English Teacher" follows the story of Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas, dealing with the daily challenges of education - from demanding students to frustrated parents and colleagues. The show features Stephanie Koenig as fellow teacher Gwen Sanders, Enrico Colantoni as Principal Grant Moretti, and Sean Patton as gym teacher Markie.
The series has garnered critical acclaim in its debut season, earning four Independent Spirit Award nominations, including recognition for best new scripted series. The season finale left viewers intrigued with Evan's unexpected reconciliation with his former flame Malcolm, portrayed by Jordan Firstman.
However, the show's success has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding creator-star Alvarez. His former collaborator Jon Ebeling has made allegations of sexual assault during the filming of a previous web series. Through legal representation, Alvarez has denied these claims, stating that consent was given. FX has not yet commented on these allegations.
The network is yet to make an official announcement regarding the renewal, but sources indicate preparations are underway for the show's return.
