In a heartwarming revelation about their early friendship, actor Dave Coulier recently shared how he crashed on Bob Saget's couch long before they became co-stars on the hit sitcom "Full House."
During a recent episode of his "Full House Rewind" podcast, Coulier recounted his first meeting with Saget at a Detroit comedy club. As an 18-year-old aspiring comedian, Coulier was immediately impressed by Saget's polished performance and quick wit during a Comedy Store tour stop.
After the show, Coulier approached Saget to discuss his entertainment industry ambitions. Saget wrote his phone number on a napkin - a memento Coulier still treasures in a scrapbook today. When Coulier eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career, he reached out to Saget, leading to a deep friendship that included temporary lodging on Saget's couch.
The living arrangement introduced Coulier, who grew up Catholic in Michigan, to Jewish culture through Saget and his family. Coulier fondly remembers attending seders, bar mitzvahs, and synagogue services with the Sagets, who embraced him like a son.
Coulier particularly cherishes memories of Saget's parents, Ben and Dolly, who became surrogate parents to him. He recalls Ben's humorous nature, much like his son Bob's, and Dolly's loving attempts to keep her husband's jokes in check.
The two comedians' early friendship ultimately led them to share the screen as Joey Gladstone and Danny Tanner on "Full House," where their natural chemistry helped create television history.
