Max has officially renewed its hit adult animated series "Creature Commandos" for a second season, marking a strong continuation for DC Studios' first entry in their new universe. The announcement comes midway through the show's successful seven-episode first season, which premiered on December 5.
The series, written and executive produced by DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, follows a covert black ops team of imprisoned monsters who take on missions too dangerous for human operatives. The show has garnered widespread acclaim since its debut, with the season one finale set to air on January 9.
The stellar voice cast includes Indira Varma, Frank Grillo, David Harbour, Zoe Chao, Alan Tudyk, Sean Gunn, Maria Bakalova, Steve Agee, and Viola Davis reprising her role as Amanda Waller.
"We're thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem," said Gunn and DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran in a joint statement. They noted the show's record-breaking launch alongside other DC successes on the platform.
Amy Gravitt, HBO & Max comedy programming head, praised Gunn's vision, saying "Only James Gunn could have conjured this wild band of misfit monsters who tug at your heart and force you to root passionately for them."
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation in partnership with DC Studios, with Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register serving as executive producers, and Rick Morales as supervising producer.
"Creature Commandos" represents the first building block in the new DC Universe continuity, which will expand further when "Superman" arrives in theaters next summer.
