The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced that acclaimed actor David Tennant will return as host for the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony. The prestigious event is scheduled for Sunday, February 16, at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Tennant, known for his roles in "Doctor Who," "Good Omens," and "Broadchurch," will helm Britain's equivalent of the Academy Awards for the second consecutive year. His 2024 hosting debut drew over 3.8 million television viewers and generated more than 20 million views of ceremony highlights across BAFTA's social media platforms.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Tennant expressed surprise at being invited back, noting that hosting wasn't something he had "particularly aspired to do." The actor, who has received five BAFTA nominations throughout his career, added, "When they asked me back, I thought, 'Really, are you sure?' But, you know, why not?"
BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip praised Tennant's previous hosting performance as "warm, witty, whip-smart, and with a delightful touch of mischief."
The 2025 ceremony will introduce a new children's and family film category, along with updated voting processes for several awards including outstanding British film, director, and acting categories. The event will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Britbox in the US and Australia.
The nominations for the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards will be announced on January 15, following the revelation of category longlists on January 3. The EE Rising Star Award, celebrating its 20th anniversary, remains the only category voted for by the public, with nominees to be announced on January 7.
