Actress Aimee Lou Wood recently opened up about her stance against getting Botox, citing her career needs as the primary reason. The White Lotus star shared her thoughts during an appearance on the Run-Through with Vogue podcast.
Wood, known for her expressive acting style, explained that her facial mobility is central to her performances. "A lot of my career relies on these facial expressions...so I can't start freezing my face. It needs to move," the British actress stated on the podcast released April 3.
The 31-year-old actor acknowledged that while others are free to make their own choices about cosmetic procedures, she's committed to maintaining her natural facial movements, even if sometimes they're more animated than intended. She candidly admitted to occasionally being surprised by her own expressiveness when watching her performances back.
Wood's natural approach extends beyond just avoiding Botox. The Sex Education star has also embraced her distinctive gapped teeth, despite industry pressure to conform to conventional beauty standards. While this decision has earned her praise and attention, Wood recently expressed a desire to shift focus back to her acting work rather than her appearance.
In discussing her acting style, Wood noted her inability to maintain a poker face, contrasting herself with actors who employ a more subdued approach. "I don't think I'll ever play a part that has a poker face because I can't do it. Even when I think I'm doing it, I'm not doing it," she revealed.
The actress's commitment to authenticity reflects her British sensibilities, which she maintains while working in Hollywood. Wood continues to reside in South East London, staying true to her roots while making waves in the entertainment industry.
