Former Marvel star Dave Bautista is actively pursuing new opportunities in the superhero genre, having reached out to prominent directors James Gunn and the Russo Brothers about potential roles.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Bautista confirmed he has expressed interest in taking on a new comic book character, though he's definitively closed the door on returning as Drax the Destroyer from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise.

"I'm a fan of that world. I'm a fan of comic books and that whole universe. Marvel, DC, I just wanna be in it," Bautista stated. He personally contacted both James Gunn, now heading DC Studios, and the Russo Brothers, known for directing "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame."

The actor made it clear that while he's done with Drax, he remains open to other superhero roles. "If there's a character that I'd be right for and that you want me for, man, I'd be totally open-minded to it," he told the directors.

Bautista's departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe came after "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" in 2023. In previous interviews with GQ magazine, he expressed relief at ending his run as Drax, citing the demanding makeup process and his desire to pursue more dramatic roles.

The former WWE star has also shown interest in potentially playing a villain, telling Gizmodo he would "love to have the opportunity to play an ominous villain in the superhero universe."

With James Gunn now leading DC Studios and the Russo Brothers developing future "Avengers" films, Bautista's proactive approach might open new doors in the superhero genre, though this time possibly in a different capacity than his previous comedic role.
