Actress Olivia Wilde recently opened up about receiving death threats during her time on the hit medical drama "House" when her character became romantically involved with Omar Epps' Dr. Eric Foreman.
Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, Wilde shared disturbing details about viewer backlash following a 2009 episode featuring the first kiss between her character Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley and Dr. Foreman.
"We got hate mail that said someone wanted to cut off my lips and kill me," Wilde revealed, highlighting the racist reactions from some viewers to the interracial relationship portrayed on screen. The threats were serious enough that additional security measures were implemented on set to protect the cast.
Wilde played Dr. Hadley for five years on the Fox drama, which ran from 2004 to 2012. Her character was also notable for being one of the few openly bisexual characters on primetime television at the time.
Looking back on her groundbreaking role, Wilde reflected on how television has evolved since then. "Seeing what's on television now, if you watch 'Euphoria,' the fact that my character was shocking and groundbreaking then - it's like, no, it's nothing," she said.
The medical drama, which starred Hugh Laurie as the brilliant but unconventional Dr. Gregory House, followed a team of diagnosticians solving complex medical mysteries at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.
