Actor Michael Fassbender shared a harrowing tale of a stormy boat journey that gave him an unexpected appreciation for ABBA's music during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The 47-year-old star recounted a dangerous nighttime boat trip from Formentera to Ibiza that turned into a near death experience. What began as a late lunch outing quickly descended into chaos when their small tender boat started deflating on the way to the main vessel.
"We just made it back, but that thing sort of sunk, and we were laughing about it," Fassbender told Fallon. However, the situation grew more serious once they boarded the main boat, as a severe storm unleashed its fury.
As the weather conditions worsened, plates and various items went flying around the boat. In an unexpected twist, ABBA's "Dancing Queen" was blasting through the speakers during the ordeal. The actor, who admitted he "never really liked ABBA" before this incident, found himself swaying to the iconic lyrics while holding on for dear life.
Mimicking the motion of riding the waves, Fassbender recalled the surreal moment: "You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life."
When host Jimmy Fallon suggested that "You're always safe with ABBA," Fassbender quipped, "If we have to die tonight, this is a good soundtrack to die to."
The actor, who stars in the upcoming espionage thriller "Black Bag" alongside Cate Blanchett, now has a newfound appreciation for the Swedish pop group's music, thanks to this memorable, if frightening, maritime adventure.
