Award-winning writer-producer Armando Iannucci has launched a new production company, Touchscreen Ltd., in partnership with BBC Studios to develop scripted programming for UK and international audiences.
The creator of hit shows like "Veep" and "The Thick of It" will be joined at Touchscreen by veteran producer Kevin Loader and development producer Charlotte Draper. The company aims to create innovative content while fostering emerging British talent both on and off screen.
"Touchscreen is focused on making projects that reflect, confront or celebrate the world we live in," said Iannucci, who will maintain his existing relationship with HBO while building the new venture. He emphasized that partnering with BBC Studios holds special meaning since the BBC is where he started his career.
Mark Linsey, President of Scripted at BBC Studios, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting its potential impact on developing new storytelling voices in the British creative industry.
The partnership will see BBC Studios handle distribution of Touchscreen's programming globally. While building Touchscreen, Loader will continue running Free Range Films, his production company known for works like "The Mother" and "Venus."
Lucy Fairney of PBJ Management brokered the deal between Iannucci and BBC Studios. The announcement comes as part of broader changes in the British drama production landscape, including new ventures from other prominent industry figures.
Iannucci's track record includes creating acclaimed productions like "The Death of Stalin" and the recent HBO series "The Franchise" with Sam Mendes. Through Touchscreen, he aims to give emerging creators similar opportunities to find their voice and reach audiences with bold, conversation-starting content.
