The Golden Globe-nominated actress shared candid thoughts about navigating the entertainment industry at the Academy Women's Luncheon in Los Angeles.

Fresh off her Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actress in "Emilia Perez," Selena Gomez spoke openly about the challenges of working in Hollywood and finding genuine connections in the industry.

"I know firsthand how isolating this industry will feel at times," Gomez revealed during her keynote speech at the Academy Women's Luncheon. The event, held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, brought together prominent actresses including Ariana Grande, Amy Adams, Pamela Anderson, and Gal Gadot.

The former Disney Channel star emphasized the importance of building community, particularly for young women in the industry. "When we share and we stand together, we create a ripple effect that stretches far beyond our own lives," she noted.

When asked about maintaining positivity amid industry pressures, Gomez highlighted her use of humor as a coping mechanism. "I know people say it's a defense mechanism, however, I think it's a great distraction from all of the noise sometimes," she told PEOPLE, adding that sharing laughs with friends brings necessary light to challenging moments.

The 32-year-old actress extended a heartfelt invitation to newcomers feeling isolated in Hollywood. "If you ever feel lonely at any event, I'm usually on my phone, playing some sort of weird game. Just come up to me, and I'll be happy to chat," she shared with a smile during her speech.

Gomez also spoke warmly about finding genuine connections on set, particularly during the filming of "Emilia Perez" with costars Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofia Gascon. "It became like this bond that we almost needed to do the rest of the film because some of it was very dark and angry. They brought so much light into my life," she reflected.

The Academy Women's Luncheon celebrated emerging women filmmakers through the Academy Gold Fellowship program, supporting the next generation of female talent in the industry.
