Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson is pushing for stricter A.I. regulations after becoming the latest victim of unauthorized A.I.-generated content. The actress spoke out against a viral video that used her digitally recreated likeness in an anti-Kanye West message without her consent.
The controversial video features A.I.-generated versions of Johansson and other Jewish celebrities, including Drake, Jerry Seinfeld, and Steven Spielberg, appearing to take a stance against West. The clip ends with an A.I. recreation of Adam Sandler making a gesture while "Hava Nagila" plays in the background.
In an exclusive statement, Johansson expressed her concerns about the broader implications of unchecked A.I. technology. "I am a Jewish woman who has no tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech of any kind," she stated. "But I also firmly believe that the potential for hate speech multiplied by A.I. is a far greater threat than any one person who takes accountability for it."
The actress highlighted the urgent need for legislative action, noting that several countries have already implemented A.I. regulations while the United States lags behind. "There is a 1000-foot wave coming regarding A.I.," Johansson warned, describing the U.S. government's inaction as "terrifying."
Johansson called for immediate bipartisan action to address what she sees as a critical threat to society. "The passing of legislation limiting A.I. use must be a top priority," she emphasized, framing the issue as one that "enormously affects the immediate future of humanity at large."
This incident adds to growing concerns about the misuse of A.I. technology and its potential to spread misinformation through deepfake videos and manipulated content.
