The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has canceled its live, in-person nominations announcement for the 31st annual SAG Awards due to the devastating wildfires currently ravaging Los Angeles.

The nominations, originally scheduled to take place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, will instead be revealed via press release and the SAG Awards website on January 8 at 7:30 AM PT.

The decision comes as the Pacific Palisades fire continues to spread across Los Angeles County, forcing over 30,000 residents to evacuate and putting more than 13,000 structures at risk. The blaze, now covering over 1,181 hectares, is being fueled by dangerous wind conditions.

The ceremony was set to feature SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher opening the event, with Kristen Bell as host. Joey King and Cooper Koch were scheduled to announce the nominees, while Jane Fonda was to receive the organization's highest honor, the Life Time Achievement award.

The SAG Awards ceremony itself remains scheduled for February 23. The nomination announcement joins a growing list of canceled Hollywood events, including Universal's "Wolf Man" premiere and Amazon MGM Studios' "Unstoppable," both originally planned for Tuesday. Paramount has also canceled Wednesday night premieres of "Better Man" and "The Pitt."

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Blass has declared a state of emergency as the fire continues to spread, with over 210,000 homes currently without power in LA County. Emergency services are actively battling the blaze, with one firefighter already sustaining serious injuries in the effort to contain the fire.

The SAG Awards organization emphasized public safety in their statement, urging everyone to stay safe during this emergency situation.
