Comedian and former "The View" host Rosie O'Donnell recently shared details about her dramatic move from the United States to Ireland, describing it as a challenging but necessary decision for her family's wellbeing.
In a candid TikTok video posted on March 20, O'Donnell, 62, discussed how she and her 12-year-old child Clay are adapting to their new life in Dublin. "It's not easy to move to another country, and we really felt as a family this was the safest and best thing for us to do," O'Donnell explained.
The comedian revealed that the move has positively impacted her health, noting improved sleep patterns and reduced anxiety since leaving the U.S. O'Donnell cited political tensions in America, particularly her ongoing disagreements with President Donald Trump, as key factors in her decision to relocate.
While embracing her new Irish life, O'Donnell is actively pursuing Irish citizenship, leveraging her family heritage through her grandparents. She expressed gratitude for having two cousins in Northern Ireland who have helped ease the transition.
Despite missing her other children and friends back in America, O'Donnell remains confident in her decision. "When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that's when we will consider coming back," she stated in an earlier TikTok post.
The comedian has already begun immersing herself in Irish culture, recently attending Dublin's St. Patrick's Day parade alongside approximately 500,000 other attendees. She praised the warm welcome she's received from local residents, describing the Irish people as "loving and kind."
O'Donnell has been documenting her new adventures on social media, including purchasing a used car to explore the Irish countryside, though she humorously noted the adjustment to driving on "the wrong side of the road."
After nearly two months in Ireland, O'Donnell maintains that while the transition presents challenges, the move represents the right choice for her family's future.
