Hilarie Burton has shared promising updates about the potential One Tree Hill reboot, though the project still awaits the green light from Netflix.

The actress revealed that she and her collaborators, including co-stars Sophia Bush and Danneel Ackles, are currently in talks with Netflix regarding the revival of the beloved teen drama. While the streaming platform has yet to make a final decision, Burton expressed confidence in their pitch.

"We're in the process of presenting things to Netflix, and they will get to decide whether or not it's greenlit," Burton told PEOPLE. She emphasized that public enthusiasm could positively influence the decision-making process.

The potential reboot has secured veteran showrunner Becky Hartman Edwards, known for her work on successful series like Firefly Lane and Virgin River. Burton praised Edwards' expertise in portraying female friendships and multi-generational storytelling.

The original One Tree Hill, which ran for nine seasons, followed the complex relationships between brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, along with friends Peyton Sawyer (Burton) and Brooke Davis (Bush) in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina.

Burton revealed that the new series would pivot toward a female-centric narrative. As a mother of two, including a teenager, she emphasized the importance of creating content that parents and children can watch together, much like the original series.

"That was kind of the best part of One Tree Hill, that parents and kids could watch it together, and be able to talk about stuff that's hard," Burton explained.

The development team confirmed in August 2024 that Burton, Bush, and Ackles would reprise their roles if the project moves forward. For now, fans and cast members alike await Netflix's decision on bringing Tree Hill back to screens.
