The highly anticipated second season of dark fantasy anime Dorohedoro is officially slated for release in 2025, as confirmed by studio MAPPA through a new teaser visual unveiled today.
Director Yuichiro Hayashi will return to helm the project at MAPPA, maintaining creative continuity with the first season that debuted in Winter 2020. The announcement follows the initial sequel confirmation from January.
The original season introduced viewers to the gritty world of the Hole, running for 12 episodes which streamed exclusively on Netflix internationally. The adaptation featured Hiroshi Seko handling series composition and scripting, while Tomohiro Kishi crafted the distinct character designs. Musical group (K)NoW_NAME contributed both the opening theme and an impressive six ending songs, with R O N composing the score.
Dorohedoro originated as a manga by Q Hayashida, beginning its run in Monthly Ikki Magazine in 2000. After navigating several magazine transitions, including stints in Hibana and Monthly Shonen Sunday, the series concluded in 2018 with 23 volumes spanning 167 chapters.
While specific plot details for the second season remain under wraps, fans can expect the series to continue adapting Hayashida's intricate narrative when it arrives in 2025.
