Former child star Frankie Muniz made surprising revelations about his iconic role in the hit 2000s sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle," declaring his character Malcolm was "the worst" on the show.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, the 39-year-old actor shared his candid thoughts about his leading role in the beloved series. Muniz, who starred in the show for seven seasons, admitted he didn't watch the complete series until eight years ago when he viewed it with his wife, Paige.
The viewing experience led to an unexpected self-realization. According to Muniz, his wife observed, "You weren't acting at all. You are literally Malcolm." The actor's response was less than enthusiastic: "I don't know how to take that because Malcolm sucked. He was the worst character on that show!"
Despite his criticism of the titular character, Muniz expressed excitement about the upcoming reboot of the series. He revealed that discussions about reviving the show began a decade ago with co-star Bryan Cranston, and those plans are now becoming reality.
The actor has already participated in chemistry reads with potential new cast members, working alongside series creator Linwood Boomer and director Ken Kwapis. "It was so weird to go back," Muniz shared, though he noted the experience felt "right at home."
The revival is being planned to coincide with the show's 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century since the series first captured audiences' hearts, despite its lead character's apparently unlikeable traits.
