Entertainment legend Liza Minnelli takes center stage in the newly released trailer for "Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story," an intimate documentary chronicling her remarkable career spanning over five decades.
The preview opens with an enchanting moment as Minnelli performs a line from "Ring Them Bells," offering viewers a glimpse into her magnetic stage presence. The film features rare footage from her 1970s European tour alongside candid interviews with close friends and fellow artists, including her sister Lorna Luft, the late Chita Rivera, Michael Feinstein, and Darren Criss.
The documentary, written and directed by Bruce David Klein, made its debut at this year's Tribeca Festival and has since garnered attention at several prestigious film festivals. The project showcases previously unreleased footage that captures Minnelli at the peak of her career, revealing both her public persona and private moments.
"I'm thrilled this documentary shares the story of how my creative voice came to life with the help of my brilliant friends, mentors and collaborators," Minnelli shared in a statement about the film.
In one touching moment from the trailer, actor Ben Vereen becomes emotional while discussing the EGOT winner's impact, while actress Mia Farrow reminisces about attending Minnelli's wedding to David Gest. The film also explores Minnelli's Hollywood heritage as the daughter of Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli.
The documentary's promotional materials include an artistic poster featuring a stylized illustration of young Minnelli, complete with her iconic pixie haircut and distinctive eyelashes, created by artist Kii Arens.
"Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story" will begin its theatrical run on January 24, 2025, at New York City's IFC Center, followed by Los Angeles screenings and a nationwide release.
