Hollywood legend Jim Carrey has expressed interest in reprising his iconic role as the green-furred holiday grump in a potential "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" sequel - but with one major condition.

The actor, who portrayed the beloved holiday character in the 2000 Ron Howard-directed film, wants to leverage modern technology instead of enduring the grueling prosthetics process required for the original movie.

"If we could figure out the Grinch with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things," Carrey revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook. He recalled the "extremely excruciating process" of spending hours in makeup, saying he had to constantly remind himself "It's for the kids" to get through the demanding production.

The original film required Carrey to don a full-body prosthetic green suit and extensive makeup daily for long shooting hours. With today's advanced motion capture technology, similar to what's used in many modern blockbusters, Carrey believes a sequel could offer more creative freedom while maintaining the character's charm.

The news comes as Carrey returns to the spotlight for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," despite previous hints at retirement. The actor has recently shown openness to revisiting several of his classic roles, suggesting his earlier talk of stepping away from acting was more about "power resting" than a permanent departure.

While no official plans for a Grinch sequel have been announced, Carrey's enthusiasm and the advancement in filmmaking technology could make the project more feasible than ever before.
