Actor Jesse Eisenberg has revealed that his portrayal of Lex Luthor in 2016's "Batman v Superman" negatively impacted his Hollywood career prospects following the film's poor reception.
Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, Eisenberg made the candid admission about his experience with the DC superhero film. "I was in this Batman movie and the Batman movie was so poorly received, and I was so poorly received," the actor stated.
The Social Network star explained that while he had appeared in other poorly-received projects that went largely unnoticed, the high-profile nature of Batman v Superman made its negative reception particularly damaging. "I've been in poorly received things that just don't see the light of day, but this was so public," he noted.
Eisenberg believes the film's reception affected his ability to secure future roles, explaining that "in the industry, if you're in a huge movie and not seen as good, the people who are choosing who to put next in their movie are just not gonna like you."
Despite the setback, the actor takes personal responsibility rather than blaming others. "I loved my role and I loved the movie... I'm not like 'They did me wrong.' I'm like 'Oh, I guess I did something wrong there,'" he reflected.
The experience led Eisenberg to pursue writing and directing his own films. His latest directorial work, "A Real Pain," is currently generating Oscar buzz. Meanwhile, the role of Lex Luthor will next be portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in James Gunn's upcoming "Superman: Legacy."
