Chuck Woolery, game-show host known for 'Love Connection,' 'Wheel of Fortune,' dies at 83
Chuck Woolery, the charismatic television personality who became a household name hosting some of America's most popular game shows, passed away at his home in Texas this weekend. He was 83.
His death was confirmed by Mark Young, his friend and podcast co-host, who said Woolery died with his wife Kristen by his side.
The original host of "Wheel of Fortune" later went on to host several other successful game shows including "Love Connection," "Scrabble," and a revival of "The Dating Game."
Known for his quick wit and smooth delivery, Woolery coined memorable catchphrases like "we'll be back in two minutes and two seconds." His contributions to television were recognized in 2007 when he was inducted into the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame, the same year he concluded his hosting career with "Lingo" on the Game Show Network.
Before his television career, Woolery pursued music as a member of the orchestral pop band "The Avant-Garde." Their song "Naturally Stoned" reached No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. He also worked as a songwriter, penning tracks for notable artists including Pat Boone and Tammy Wynette.
In his later years, Woolery ventured into podcasting, co-hosting "Blunt Force Truth" with Young, where he discussed various political topics.
Born and raised in Kentucky, Woolery served in the Navy after high school. He is survived by his wife Kristen, sons Michael and Sean, and daughter Melissa.
