Disney Advertising has unveiled impressive streaming numbers, reporting an average of 157 million monthly active users globally over the past six months, with 112 million users in the domestic market. The announcement came during the company's fifth annual Tech and Data Showcase at CES in Las Vegas.

The entertainment giant has taken a pioneering step by openly sharing its methodology for calculating these numbers. The monthly active user (MAU) count includes viewers across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ who watch ad-supported content for more than 10 seconds continuously.

Disney's calculation method multiplies active accounts by an estimated 2.6 users per account, based on first-party survey data from over 13,000 respondents aged 18-64 in regions with advertising tiers. The numbers exclude Hotstar viewing.

Rita Ferro, President of Global Advertising at Disney, emphasized the company's position at "the intersection of world-class sports and entertainment content" and highlighted their commitment to transparency in reporting streaming metrics.

These numbers place Disney in a strong position within the streaming landscape. For comparison, Netflix reported 70 million MAUs in their last update, while Fox Corp.'s Tubi announced 97 million users.

The company also revealed that over 50% of new Disney+ subscribers consistently choose the ad-supported tier, demonstrating strong adoption of their advertising-supported streaming options.

While Disney has provided unprecedented transparency in their reporting methodology, they noted they are not obligated to provide future updates or revisions to these numbers.
