Actor David Schwimmer shared an unexpected connection to rock legend Rod Stewart during a recent appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," revealing that he once served the singer divorce papers before his acting career took off.

The "Friends" star recounted working as a process server for his mother, a divorce lawyer, during a summer break from college when he was 18 years old. "I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers," Schwimmer explained.

Among his memorable encounters was serving papers to Stewart, though Schwimmer admitted he wasn't sure if the singer even knew who handed him the documents. "Thank goodness I've never run into him since," the actor said with a laugh.

The timing suggests this occurred around 1984 when Stewart was divorcing his first wife, Alana Stewart. The couple had married in 1979 and had two children together before their split.

Host Stephen Colbert playfully warned Schwimmer that his televised confession might have consequences, joking that Stewart "knows to punch you" if they ever cross paths now.

Stewart, now 80, went on to marry twice more - to model Rachel Hunter in 1990, and current wife Penny Lancaster in 2007. The Grammy winner later admitted he was "too young" for marriage when he wed Alana Stewart at age 34.

For Schwimmer, the process server job was one of several "banana jobs" he held before landing his breakthrough role as Ross Geller on "Friends."
