Amazon has already ordered two seasons of its upcoming God of War TV series adaptation, even before the first episode has aired, according to newly appointed showrunner Ronald D. Moore.
Moore, who recently took over the project after previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers departed, revealed the news during an interview with actress Katee Sackhoff. He confirmed he is currently leading the writers' room for the adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
The veteran television producer, known for his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Battlestar Galactica, admitted he isn't an avid gamer himself. While he attempted to play video games, he found modern controllers challenging to master.
The series will be based on the 2018 God of War game, with Sony's Cory Barlog remaining involved as executive producer. Moore will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for both ordered seasons.
This early renewal follows Amazon's pattern with other video game adaptations. The streaming service previously renewed shows like Fallout and Secret Level following their successful launches.
While many details about the God of War series remain under wraps, including casting and release dates, the two-season order suggests Amazon's strong confidence in the project's potential success.
