Comedian Ali Wong celebrated her San Francisco roots while accepting the Golden Globe award for Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for her Netflix special "Single Lady."
During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Wong acknowledged the Bay Area comedy scene that launched her career. "I come from San Francisco and that's where I started doing stand-up, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for all the stage time that I got there," Wong remarked.
The comedian specifically thanked Molly Schminke from San Francisco's Punch Line comedy club and her best friend Mia for their ongoing support throughout her journey.
This marks Wong's second Golden Globe victory in recent times, following her win for her lead role in Netflix's acclaimed series "Beef." In the stand-up category, she prevailed over a talented lineup including ceremony host Nikki Glaser, Seth Meyers, Ramy Youssef, Jamie Foxx, and Adam Sandler.
The award, only in its second year, continues Netflix's winning streak after Ricky Gervais claimed the inaugural prize last year for "Armageddon." Netflix dominated this year's nominations, securing half the spots in the category alongside HBO's contenders.
Wong's achievement adds to her growing list of accolades, including her historic Emmy win for "Beef," where she became the first Asian woman to receive the Lead Actress award. Beyond performing, she has expanded her creative portfolio by directing comedian Frankie Quiñones's hour-long special and executive producing the animated series "Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld."
