George Lowe, the iconic voice actor best known for bringing Space Ghost to life in "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," passed away on March 2 following an extended illness. He was 67.
The veteran voice actor's death was confirmed by his longtime friend "Marvelous" Marvin Boone. Lowe had been battling serious health issues in recent months, including an aortic dissection that required multiple intubations. He had been receiving nursing care at his Florida home.
Lowe's most memorable role came as the titular character in Cartoon Network's groundbreaking series "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," which ran for over a decade and produced more than 100 episodes. The innovative show blended animation with live-action celebrity interviews, helping establish Adult Swim's signature offbeat style.
Beginning his career in the 1980s after studying at the Radio Engineering Institute of Sarasota, Lowe went on to voice Space Ghost across multiple projects, including the spinoff series "Cartoon Planet" and the 2007 "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie. His distinctive voice talents were also featured in popular animated series like "The Brak Show," "Robot Chicken," "Squidbillies," and "American Dad."
The accomplished voice actor's work on "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" helped transform late-night entertainment, combining surreal humor with celebrity interviews in a format that influenced a generation of alternative comedy.
