Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley has confirmed she will use her own voice to portray legendary singer Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic that has been in development for seven years.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Woodley, 33, revealed details about her preparation for the challenging role, particularly working with renowned music producer Linda Perry.
"I was like, 'I can't sing like Janis,'" Woodley admitted, describing Perry's unique training approach. The producer would unexpectedly invite her to empty warehouses where full bands were waiting, telling her simply to "have fun" and perform.
The actress expressed deep admiration for Joplin, who passed away at age 27 in 1970. "She really brought the light to this planet in a really singular way," Woodley shared, adding that exploring the singer's story has been an enjoyable experience.
The announcement marks a major milestone for the long-awaited project, which will showcase both Woodley's acting and newly developed vocal abilities as she brings the "Piece of My Heart" singer's story to the big screen.
News of Woodley's casting in the biographical film first emerged in September, generating excitement among fans of both the actress and the iconic 1960s musician. The project aims to capture Joplin's groundbreaking impact on rock music and her enduring legacy.
