A new documentary is set to reveal an untold chapter in Princess Diana's life through the eyes of her private dance instructor. Based on the memoir "Dancing with Diana" by Anne Allan, the 90-minute feature will chronicle their nine-year relationship that began in 1981.
Allan, a Scottish-Canadian dancer and former London City Ballet mistress, gave Princess Diana hundreds of weekly private lessons in a discreet dance studio. During these sessions, the two women developed a close friendship as Diana navigated her new royal life, motherhood, marital struggles, and personal challenges including bulimia.
The documentary, co-produced by Sphere Media and Two Rivers Media, promises never-before-seen materials including photographs, personal gifts, and notes from the Princess. It will also feature new interviews with royal insiders, celebrities, and Diana's close friends.
One of the highlights of their collaboration was Diana's famous "Uptown Girl" performance at London's Royal Opera House in 1985, which Allan co-choreographed. The surprise performance for Prince Charles showcased Diana's transformation from a shy newlywed to a confident performer.
"During my time with the Princess, I witnessed not only Diana's profound love of dance but a much more personal side of her," Allan shared. "I hope viewers will discover a deeper understanding of just how extraordinary she was."
The documentary, which will be distributed globally by Sphere Abacus, aims to present a fresh perspective on one of history's most documented figures through the unique lens of her dance mentor and confidante.
