Veteran journalist Chris Wallace has announced his decision to leave CNN after nearly three years with the network. The 77-year-old broadcaster, known for his incisive interviews and political commentary, plans to explore new opportunities in streaming and podcasting platforms.

Wallace, who joined CNN in 2021 after an 18-year stint at Fox News, cited the changing media landscape as a key factor in his decision. "Where the action seems to be," Wallace told the Daily Beast, referring to independent platforms like streaming services and podcasts.

During his time at CNN, Wallace hosted "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?" which streamed on Max, and played a significant role in the network's 2024 election coverage. His departure comes as his three-year contract with CNN is set to expire at the end of the year.

CNN CEO and Chairman Mark Thompson praised Wallace's contributions, stating, "Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming."

Wallace's career in broadcast journalism spans over five decades, including notable roles at NBC's "The Today Show" and "Meet The Press," ABC's "PrimeTime Live," and "Fox News Sunday." He has interviewed numerous presidents, world leaders, and influential figures throughout his career.

As he prepares for this new chapter, Wallace expressed excitement about the possibilities ahead. "This is the first time in 55 years I've been between jobs," he said. "I am actually excited and liberated by that."

The seasoned journalist's move reflects broader shifts in the media industry, as traditional broadcast networks face challenges from emerging digital platforms. Wallace's decision to explore independent avenues highlights the evolving nature of news consumption and content creation in the digital age.

As Wallace concludes his tenure at CNN, industry observers and fans alike will be watching closely to see where this respected journalist lands next in the ever-changing media landscape.
