Multipleverses Hottest Stars in SciFi 2010 – Winners List

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

First off- thanks to the over 5,000 people who voted in our poll!
Two shows dominated this year’s first ever Multipleverses Hottest Stars in SciFi List. Legend of the Seeker and Smallville each took 4 slots ( Jensen Ackles is a double entrant with roles on Smallville in the past as well as being on Supernatural). Supernatural’s hunks represented 30% of our list with Jensen, Misha and Jared all taking away top ten votes. The Terminator franchise was equally represented with Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn and Summer Glau all making our top ten lists. Legend of the Seeker was the big winner with Craig Horner taking hottest male while Bridget narrowly lost to Erica Durance settling for second on our list. Craig Parker proved that being a bad guy on two shows pays off as the Legend of the Seeker and Spartacus star just made our top ten. Filling out the top ten women is Legend’s Tabrett Bethell who has the distinction of being our only top ten finisher to do so by write in vote!

Lena Headey Cast in “Game of Thrones”

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

300All the major roles for HBO’s “Game of Thones” pilot have been filled in recent weeks — except one.

I can exclusively reveal that Lena Headey, most recently seen as Sarah Connor in Fox’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” will play Cersei Lannister, a woman of royal blood who is every bit as smart, cunning and devious as the powerful men around her.

Other cast members include the perfectly cast Peter Dinklage as Cersei’s brother Tyrion, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Cersei’s twin, Jaime, Sean Bean as aristocrat Ned Stark, Jennifer Ehle as his wife Catelyn Stark and Mark Addy as King Robert. HBO confirmed the casting of Headey on Tuesday.

The “Game of Thrones” pilot, an adaptation of a fantasy novel by George R.R. Martin, starts shooting in late October in Northern Ireland.

Interest in the “Thrones” pilot is already at fever pitch: The blogs Winter Is Coming and Westeros have been following the casting avidly, and I can see why.

One “Thrones” fan asked me if this level of interest in a pilot that may not show up on TV for a year or more is normal. No, it’s not. But Martin’s book series tends to inspire a certain kind of deep and abiding loyalty, if not obsession. To read the books of Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series (four have come out so far) is to be completely immersed in a world that recalls the golden age of knights and chivalry while also showing, through memorable and believable characters, how deeply flawed human nature can be. It’s a world in which honor and fealty don’t mean what they used to and those in power have to contend with an array of threats, sometimes from those closest to them, sometimes from unexpected places.

Don’t let the fantasy label put you off. This is a book series about human beings, and how they respond to difficult challenges. But OK, there are knights, tournaments, battles, bawdy humor, spectacles and freaky creatures from the icy north. There are also deeply moving relationships and wonderfully detailed locales, all of which kept me turning hundreds of pages all summer.

As Time’s James Poniewozik has written, “Thrones” is the kind of complicated, richly appointed, adult drama that HBO tends to do well. Martin “constantly forces you to question whether the ‘honorable’ resolution to a conflict is the best in the long run. The saga is littered with fallen heroes and shattered myths, as well as apparent villains and rogues who make surprising turns,” Poniewozik writes.

In short, if this “Thrones” adaptation is at least as good as HBO’s “Rome,” I’ll be glued to it. Here’s where I inject the note of caution: At this point, “Thrones” is just a pilot and it has not yet been picked up to series. Fingers crossed that its every bit as good as Martin’s many fans hope it will be and we spend 2010 obsessing about HBO’s cool new show.

*SCREAMS* I can’t even tell you how frakking excited I am for this news – Lena of course is no stranger to fantasy having starred in “300″ I don’t know anything about these books, but w/ this series being on HBO Lena will finally be able to get the Emmy type of recognition that she deserves! BTW expect most of the news for this series to now be moved over to The Sarah Connor Society.

Some of the nominees’ reactions include:

6292_7011668111“Without all of the fans, the claws would have been sheathed a long time ago!  Thank you so much,” said Hugh Jackman after hearing he was nominated for two “SCREAM” awards and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was nominated for 13.

“Everyone knows it’s the VILLAINS who have the most fun.  Thanks to the ‘SCREAM’ team and congrats to everyone at ‘True Blood.’  This is very exciting for the whole show,” said Best Villain nominee and star of  HBO’s “True Blood” Alexander Skarsgard.

“Thank you for the nomination and thank you for letting me frighten you.  I look forward to doing it again sometime soon,” said Ryan Kwanten trueblood09_22after hearing he was nominated for Best Horror Actor for his role as Jason Stackhouse on “True Blood.”

“Getting nominated for kissing a Vulcan is a better fate than logic,” said “Star Trek’s” Zoe Saldana after getting word she received two “SCREAM” Awards nominations for Best Breakout Performance: Female and Best Science Fiction Actress.

J.J. Abrams’ Sci-Fi action-adventure “Star Trek” tops the list with 17 nominations including The Ultimate Scream, Best Science Fiction Movie, Best Director, Best Ensemble, Holy Sh*t Scene of the Year and a nod in the all-new Fight-to-the-Death Scene of the Year category.  Comic book-inspired blockbusters “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Watchmen” each nabbed 13 nominations, while HBO’s vampire-themed television series “True Blood” garnered nine nominations.  A full list of categories and nominations are included below.

Ballots were sent out to Spike TV’s “SCREAM 2009” advisory board, consisting of some of the most respected and well-known members of the horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic book worlds who were responsible for advising on categories and determining nominees in each category.  All films, television shows and comic books were deemed eligible for inclusion if they were released between August 9, 2008 and July 15, 2009 and were representative of the genres listed.  Winners will be determined by online voting at scream.spike.com.

Single Emmy Nominations list for Sci-Fi and Action Series

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

More single Emmy nominations from some of our favorite series- Chuck is up against Burn Notice in the stunts category, the special effects area is tight. I think BSG might get it but am thrilled to see Sanctuary get a nod for its all green screen filming and 100% digital environment. Smallville and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles have two of their best episodes of the seasons facing off in the sound editing category. Life on Mars may not have been renewed but it snagged a most coveted Best Cinematography nomination. Bones gets a nomination for Art Direction for Hero in the Hold- the episode with Booth trapped on the ship and hallucinating. The fun final nod on this list is the nomination of Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along for best web series- especially sweet when Dollhouse was shut out completely. In some non- sci-fi nominations, Nate Fillion’s Castle received a nod for best score and William Shatner received a best supporting actor in a drama nomination for his work on Boston Public.
