Port Washington, NY – This June, return to the unbelievable world of Sanctuary, the trailblazing Syfy series that follows Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) on her quest to study and protect the extraordinary and legendary creatures that secretly live among us. SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON, which earned a 2009 Primetime Emmy(R) nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, will arrive on DVD ($44.98 SRP) – and for the first time ever on Blu-ray ($49.98 SRP) – on June 15. Releasing simultaneously with Season 2 will be a Blu-ray edition of SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON ($49.98 SRP), which includes the exclusive “Pilot Episode: Visual Effects Picture in Picture” bonus feature.
Presented in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 Surround Sound (DTS HD 5.1 Master Audio on Blu-ray), SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON features an astounding arsenal of extras including: episode audio commentaries with Amanda Tapping, Creator Damian Kindler and Director Martin Wood (plus additional members of the cast and crew); five featurettes (“International Sanctuary,” “Amanda Tapping Directs ‘Veritas’,” “Dancing in Mumbai,” “Sanctuary Visual Effects” and “Sanctuary Goes to Comic Con”); “Anatomy of an Episode,” a from script to screen look at the “Next Tuesday” episode; Robin Dunne’s “Behind-the-Scenes” and “Sanctuary Goes to Japan” video diaries; a “Bloopers and Outtakes” reel; and a production stills photo gallery.
Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus as she tracks down, studies and protects the strange and often terrifying creatures that secretly populate our world. Although dismissed as monstrous figments of our imaginations, Magnus recognizes that the world is full of nature’s mistakes and triumphs. And she has the spectacular proof that they are indeed real. For some ‘abnormals,’ Magnus is their protector. For a dangerous few, she is their captor.
Season 2 starts with emotional intensity and fast-paced action… and never lets up. In a desperate search to find her daughter, Magnus obtains top secret files that give her clues to the Cabal’s catastrophic plan for the Sanctuary Network, and Ashley’s devastating role in it. Throughout the season, Magnus and her team face off against an unlikely “superhero” who’s causing chaos, tangle with an unusual sea creature off the coast of Louisiana, battle a doctor who has been turning his patients into a powerful new breed of vampire, and seek the secrets to the ancient Cult of Kali.
Sanctuary stars Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1) as Dr. Helen Magnus, Robin Dunne (Dawson’s Creek) as forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman, Ryan Robbins (Battlestar Galactica) as tech expert Henry Foss, Agam Darshi (2012) as professional con artist Kate Freelander, and Christopher Heyerdahl (New Moon) as the unpredictable and sinister John Druitt.
With a visual style that recalls graphic novels and comic book action in a rich texture of visual effects, Sanctuary sparks the imagination of viewers looking to escape into the seemingly impossible. Nearly 2.5 million viewers tuned in to the premiere season in fall 2008 on Syfy in the U.S., the best performance for a first-season Syfy scripted original series since 2006.
This groundbreaking series blazes a trail across the television landscape by shooting predominantly on green screen and employing a staggering number of stunning visual effects. It was also the first television series in North America to use the RED camera exclusively – a digital system that captures images at four times the resolution of a high definition camera, resulting in a look that is unmatched on television.
The Sanctuary creative team includes Executive Producer, Writer and Creator Damian Kindler; Executive Producer and Lead Actor Amanda Tapping; and Executive Producer and Director Martin Wood. In addition, Alan McCullough serves as Co-executive Producer and Writer along with Keith Beedie, Jim Bogusz, Andrea Gorforlova and Carrie Mudd as Executive Producers. Sanctuary is produced by My Plastic Badger Productions and The Beedie Group in association with Syfy and Tricon Films and Television. Sanctuary is distributed by Tricon Films and Television.
