Review & Highlights
By Michal

“Hope you’re ready for your big boy bike, Bartowski.” – Casey
Poor Casey. He kept getting chances, but didn’t get to blow anything up. I hate it when he isn’t happy. But onto tonight’s festivities…if you haven’t watched the episode yet, the standard spoiler warning applies and you should stop reading now. Okay, actually now!
Review
I know I’m a broken record, but I just can’t stop pondering how drastically the relationships on this show has changed since Chuck premiered. In the beginning, Chuck was the one in need of saving on a regular basis. And while Chuck still hasn’t got everything figured out, people now rely on Chuck to save the day. In this episode alone, Chuck saved Shaw – a bona fide hero – twice in the episode.
Chuck’s relationship with Morgan and Ellie has also changed significantly since the first years of the show. Chuck has become so secretive in order to protect those around him and so the once always open and truthful guy is getting more and more distant around the very people he wants to safeguard. While I’m enjoying Morgan and Ellie working together to figure out what Chuck is up to, but I also feel a bit bad for both of them. They don’t have Chuck anymore and they’ve turned to eachother. Part of me wants them to figure it all out, but then again…where would be the fun if everyone in Chuck’s world knew.
As for “Chuck versus the Mask,” I enjoyed the mission and especially Hannah. Kristin Kreuk along with Brandon Routh are awesome additions to the show. I like their characters. They have great chemistry with their partners. Plus it’s nice to get a little break from the Chuck/Sarah relationship mess. The chances of both Hannah and Shaw actually being the people they present themselves as is slim to none, so we might as well enjoy them while they last!
Overall, I felt it was a solid episode and a nice way to leave off as we enter the Olympic hiatus. I liked that the episode ended with a glimpse of The Ring, but not much more. Don’t get me wrong, I like my cliffhangers, but it’s also nice to end on more of a pensive note with Chuck and Sarah discussing their budding relationships with Hannah and Shaw.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
“I’m talking to the computer. Sometimes I feel like it helps.”
I have to say, using masks to smuggle stuff is quite smart. I wish I had a more cunning and nefarious mind.
Huh…I totally thought Jeff and Lester would have been better stalkers. Perhaps the fact their mark is a guy is throwing off their game. I hope they step it up in the future.
I got a smile at watching Ellie and Morgan searching the Buy More for Chuck, aisle by aisle. It was almost like a military operation. Perhaps Casey’s mere presence in the Buy More has had a lasting impression on people…even if they don’t know it!
I do have to admit I feel a bit bad for Morgan. He called dibs on Hannah, but forgot to tell Chuck. Bad break…
“When do I get to blow something up?!?!?”
Well, that’s it for me. So what did you all think? Do you agree with me? Were we watching the same show? Leave your comments below!
