Paramount has released the first peek at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, and he’s geared up to wreck havoc for Tony Stark in “Iron Man 2.”
The actor is seen sporting a partial exoskeleton with a power pack on his chest reminiscent of Iron Man’s own.
The character’s alter ego, Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who “has constructed his own version of a suit,” director Jon Favreau told USA Today. He also wields a pair of whips, which are powered by his exoskeleton and should make him a formidable foe for the armored superhero.
Rourke told the paper that Whiplash “is going to light them up.”
Whiplash, along with The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will take on Iron Man in the eagerly anticipated sequel, due in theaters May 7, 2010.

Faran Tahir has the distinction of being in two super sci-fi franchises with his role in last year’s mega-hit Iron Man and in the new Star Trek movie. He talks about his part in Trek , the contrasts between working with JJ Abrams and Jon Favreau and the possibilities for being in Iron Man 3. In my book Faran wins the Arnold Vosloo award for being the sexiest bald bad guy in Iron Man- I would love to see him back in another chapter.
Here is a new set picture of Iron Man 2 of a Los Angeles Landmark, Randy’s Donuts. Director Jon Favreau posted this via his Twitter account.
Nothing too revealing, but he did also confirm that both Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) filmed their first scenes today. Johansson was in black leather while Jackson filmed his scene with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.

Thanks to ODI on SpoilerTV for the head’s up
We have our first official promo photo for Iron Man 2- pic from USA Today

Told you I would have more from the Scream Awards to share today!
Best Sci Fi TV Series went to DEXTER
Best Sci Fi Actress award went to Mila Jovovich for her work in the latest Resident Evil chapter
Tim Burton was recognized for his body of work with an awesome big montage of his films including the 80s Batman films – award presented by Winona Ryder who will be in the new Star Trek movie
The Dark Knight won for Best Scream and was presented by Rosario Dawson
Iron Man won best Sci Fi movie – great video bit with Robert Downey Jr. in England shooting Sherlock Holmes where director Guy Richie is ragging on him to get back to work!
This was my first time watching this award show and it was far more fun and entertaining than any stuffy big Hollywood gala. The show was taped not live which was to edit out the f-bombs but that is ok. It was great seeing all of my favorite actors and actresses in one place celebrating the action, sci-fi and horror films that permeate the box office but get no real critical acclaim though they keep everyone else working with the revenue they generate.
Here are some more interviews from the red carpet- Gary Oldman talking about being there for the Dark Knight, Ron Perlman and the one I love is Jamie King talking about her love of BSG!
