NBC has renewed Grimm for a second season.
The freshman fantasy procedural has been a quiet surprise on Friday nights for the network, averaging a 1.5 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-to-49 demographic and 4.8 million total viewers.
The drama with a fairy tale twist from Buffy scribesDavid Greenwalt and Jim Kouf has been a steady performer for the network against established genre fare Fringe (Fox) and Supernatural (The CW) in the 9 p.m. time slot.
Grimm scribe Akela Cooper broketweeting: “Just heard the good news: #GRIMM IS GETTING A SECOND SEASON!! … Walk into the office this morning & our showrunners David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf tell me the good news: #Grimm is picked up 4 a second season!”
NBC picked up the series, starring David Giuntoli, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee and Russell Hornsby, for a full season in November.
The series was one of two fantasy procedurals that launched this season, with ABC’s Once Upon a Time also delivering healthy returns for ABC on Sunday nights.
