Legend of the Seeker
First off, I know this is petty, but what in the world have they done to Richard’s hair. It used to be so pretty and now it looks like something has crawled onto his head and died. Anyway, onto the actual episode. I have to say I did a little victory dance when Craig Parker (Darken Rahl) showed up again as The Keeper’s minion. I was hoping we hadn’t seen the last of him. I also liked the addition of Cara the former (?) Mord Sith. I like her interactions with Richard and Kahlan and I look forward to that triangle of trust.
In addition to Richard’s hair, I have to admit that seeing Cordelia Chase as a Mord Sith was a bit distracting. I’m glad that Charisma Carpenter is working (I loved her has Kendall Casablancas on Veronica Mars), but I didn’t care for her in this role. However, overall I enjoyed the season opener and the direction the show appears to be taking in season 2. I think we’re in for a fun ride!
Bones – The Dwarf in the Dirt
I thought this was a solid episode and the mystery had a number of twists and turns. I’m not a fan of Mr. Nigel Murray, but he had a couple of lines in the episode that made me chuckle. Who knew Marilyn Monroe had six toes on one foot. However, for me the highlight was the appearance of one of my favorite recurring characters. I love Stephen Fry and so any episode that features Gordon Gordon is instantly awesome as far as I’m concerned.
TVD – History Repeating
Well, that was fun…kind of freaky at times, but fun nonetheless. How could I not love an episode that featured not only Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline getting along for once, but also awesome brother interaction and an out of the blue revelation why Damon returned to Mystic Falls. His final scene with Stefan was heartbreaking and I was actually surprised when he revealed unlike his brother he was never compelled by Katherine. I know I’ve discussed how well Ian Somerhalder makes those scenes of true emotion and hurt work, but this one really got to me. Damon’s look of sad compassion just made it all the more compelling. I know Damon won’t really go, but I almost found myself telling him through the television not to leave. He’s really becoming my favorite villain currently on television.
I’m beginning to like Matt and Caroline. I’ve never really cared for Caroline and while I feel bad for Matt, I didn’t find myself all that attached to him. However, they make a cute – and compatible – couple. Of course now that Elena is on board of course Stefan has to claim he must leave. I’m not a fan of the will they/won’t they relationships on television. In this case, we know by next week they’ll be back together. It’s kind of ridiculous, but I’ll let it go since I find the rest of the show so deliciously amusing.
Supernatural – The Real Ghostbusters
This is the type of episode I have a hard time reviewing. I enjoyed watching it and
I thought it was quite clever and funny at times, but the timing just felt wrong. While last week wasn’t without seriousness, it definitely came across as a funny episode and so it feels like a mistake to also make this week’s episode funny. I mean there is an apocalypse going on and Lucifer walks the earth. I’m just not feeling the tension or strain of the coming doom. I have the same problem with Ghostfacers.
Anyhoo, I did enjoy quite a bit of the episode. I especially enjoyed all of the various fake Deans and Sams reciting lines from the previous “books” in gravelling voices and Dean’s growing horror at the entire situation. Oh and how can I leave out Chuck and his awesome rambling moments. I’ll leave off with a couple of my favorites:
- “So what does the future hold for Sam and Dean? Well, uh, how do you feel about angels? Yeah. you know, because let me tell you, they’re not nearly as lame as you think.”
- “Uh, no, there’s really no such thing as a Croatoan Virus for… down there. You really should see a doctor.”
- “Like all authors I started writing because of love. Yeah, I had a huge crush on Nancy McKeon who played Jo in The Facts of Life. I must have written her forty to fifty letters. She never wrote back.”
- “I don’t think the Benders made flesh suits out of all their victims. No, It’s like a couple of scarves.”
- “The way I look at it, it’s really not jumping the shark if you never come down. Ya know??”
