TVD – “History Repeating”

“I have a bigger surprise, Stefan. I’m going to bring her back.”
Man, I may have to recruit someone to watch TVD with me. I’m not ashamed to admit that a couple of scenes from tonight’s episode had me a bit jumpy. But onto tonight’s festivities…if you haven’t watched the episode yet, the standard spoiler warning applies and you should stop reading now.
Review
Well, that was fun…kind of freaky at times, but fun nonetheless. How could I not love an episode that featured not only Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline getting along for once, but also awesome brother interaction and an out of the blue revelation why Damon returned to Mystic Falls.
Before I get to Damon’s revelation, I have to spend a couple of moments discussing Bonnie and her ancestor Emily, who from this point on will be referred to as Kendra the Vampire Slayer. I’ve liked Bonnie since the pilot, but I’ve really enjoyed how the witch storyline has developed over the last nine episodes. I knew it would connect back to the Salvatore brothers, but I never guessed that Kendra and Damon would have ever had a pact to save Katherine.
Speaking of Damon, how heartbreaking was his final scene with Stefan in which he revealed unlike his brother he was never compelled by Katherine. I know I’ve discussed how well Ian Somerhalder makes those scenes of true emotion and hurt work, but this one really got to me. Damon’s look of sad compassion just made it all the more compelling. I know Damon won’t really go, but I almost found myself telling him through the television not to leave. He’s really becoming my favorite villain currently on television.
Of course now that Elena is on board of course Stefan has to claim he must leave. I’m not a fan of the will they/won’t they relationships on television. In this case, we know by next week they’ll be back together. It’s kind of ridiculous, but I’ll let it go since I find the rest of the show so deliciously amusing.
Miscellaneous Highlights & Thoughts
I’m beginning to like Matt and Caroline. I’ve never really cared for Caroline and while I feel bad for Matt, I didn’t find myself all that attached to him. However, they make a cute – and compatible – couple.
“Do you prefer the brooding forehead?”
I really enjoyed the brothers’ conversation in which they said what they thought the other would say at that moment. I know I’m a sucker for brothers on television shows, but I found that highly amusing.
Just going to say I’m not a fan of séances. They never end well…
“What part of the story did you leave out, Damon?”
Will we ever see the end of Logan? I really hate him. I’m just going to come out and say that.
