In the grand tradition that every great Brit actor must appear at least once in a Harry Potter film, the latest casting news for ‘HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS’ is that Bill Nighy has been cast in the series. Nigh who’s most likely known for his work in The Pirates of the Caribbean films and Love Actually, he spoke a bit about his part to The Independent:
Bill Nighy has an announcement. “I don’t think I’m allowed to say it but I’m going to be in the next Harry Potter film,” he tells us. “I won’t say which character, but he’s a goodie. I just got the gig.” If you don’t mind us saying, it’s about time, Bill. The rangy actor has been dropping hints for aeons, once complaining that he was “the only British actor who hasn’t been in Harry Potter”. But has he read the books? “Not yet, but I will!” he says. “It’s rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?” Mm.
The Leaky Caldron the largest Harry Potter fansite on the web is reporting that their inside sources revealed that he’ll be playing Rufus Scrimgeour – the man who takes over the role of Minister of Magic when Fudge gets ousted.
The final 2-part installment of the final Harry Potter film franchise is currently in production with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE opening in theaters on July 15th.
