Recap & highlights from “Chuck verses the Ring”

“Thank you for saving my life at least once a week.” – Chuck
Well, I’ve come to this conclusion: I should have bought a few more sandwiches at Subway today. I’m going to be beyond frustrated and heartbroken if this show doesn’t get picked up for another season. There will not be enough chocolate or alcohol in the world to help console me…
But onto festivities…if you haven’t watched the episode yet, the standard spoiler warning applies and you should stop reading now. Okay, actually now!
I loved The O.C. finales and had high hopes that Josh Schwartz, Chris Fedak & company would create a beyond fantastic season finale. They took it a step further and created an hour of television I’ll be re-watching until I lose could. From the opening scene with Casey and Chuck walking side-by-side about to quit the Buy More to the final moment in which Chuck comments he “knows kung fu,” I sat on the edge of my seat often laughing until it hurt. That is a sign of a television show and one that should stick around for a few more years!
I’m hoping to write a more extensive review of the episode after I have had a couple of days to process it all, but at the moment I’m finding it difficult to form complete thoughts, let alone sentences. So, I thought I’d share my favorite moments in no particular order from the finale.
• I loved seeing Casey and Chuck walking down the isle at the Buy More on their way to Emmett’s office to quit. (“You can take your flag and your job and shove it.” “Ditto.”) They look like they were really partners – equals – who understood the strengths the other brought to the table. Besides, there hasn’t been a more significant “ditto” since Ghost.
• Chuck asking Sarah to the take a vacation with him was priceless. I’m kind of wishing that one of these days they do get to take that trip to a place that has a beach and serves drinks with little umbrellas in them.
• The pre-wedding entertainment…AWESOME! I mean it was beyond convenient that Jeffster played loudly enough that none of the wedding guests could hear the shootout in the next room. The setting off Roman candles inside the church was simply the piece de resistance.
• Also I got a kick out of Awesome’s reaction to learning that the delay is because of Chuck. (“Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian wreck your wedding?”) I’m so loving that Devon knows Chuck’s secret.
• I’ve always liked Bryce, even before the revelation that he has been protecting Chuck since Stanford, but that just made everything even better. I’m not sure if Bryce is really dead, he seems to have nine lives, but if this was really the end for him, I’m glad he went out in such a heroic way. Rest in peace Agent Larkin. You will be missed (even if you can’t do a decent death scene).
• Chuck horrified exclamations over the destruction of the flowers and centerpieces as they were being shot to smithereens during the gunfight and finally climaxing with a hilarious look as the ice sculpture breaks apart.
• Gotta love Casey to the rescue! I knew it was coming and it was still brilliant. That’s a sign of a damn fine television show! I laughed so hard at Casey the Wedding Planner (“No, no, no, no that clashes with the bunting). I love how the character of John Casey has developed over the last two years. He even allowed Chuck to hug him for a moment.
• I’ve often thought Sarah Lancaster is overlooked in some respects on the show, but she proved her worth in that bathtub scene and her utter joy at Chuck quitting the Buy More. I love the bond that Ellie and Chuck share.
• I also appreciated that when Chuck joined the mission, neither Casey nor Sarah turned him away. That was a subtle moment that made me go awww…
• Chevy Chase had a whole lot of fun as Roark and it shows. Beyond extending the deadline to provide him with the Intersect cube tom half an hour to “40 minutes tops with traffic,” the bad shotgun wedding pun was delightful. It was also reassuring to know he had an issue with his men chewing gum. That’s something I could get behind!
• As always, the music was spot on tonight. I can’t wait to update by season 2 playlist. It’s going to be a good Tuesday at work!
In conclusion, new kung fu flashing Chuck=AWESOME!
Well, that’s it for me. So what did you all think? Do you agree with me? Were we watching the same show? Leave your comments below!

I loved Chuck spending his big CIA paycheck to make Ellie’s dream wedding happen. Was Dr Awesome just too funny guarding the women from Morgan? “I’ve heard about you- there was nudity involved…..”
The special pre-wedding entertainment by Jeffster “This wedding just got good” Big Mike- the looks of horror on everyone else’s faces….Ellie doing yoga in wedding dress to chill….I too like Awesome knowing about Chuck- he is now in on covering for him.
Dad having a pseudo intersect in his head?
“There is an intersect involved- I’m a Bartowski” -Chuck
Loved the kung fu moment. I am going to have to watch again at least once. What a great season finale- I will be crushed if Chuck doesn’t come back….
This episode was awesome. The “to be continued…” at the end gives me hope.
They better order a third season or I, too, will not be consolable.
It would be nice to see Chuck kick some ass along side Sarah.
